J. Gordon Allen

Gordon was admitted as the a member of the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society in 1993, and is also a member of The Law Society of Upper Canada. His primary focus is on what he likes to call “problem solving”, namely assisting clients avoid problems and dealing with them effectively should they arise.

This process is sometimes called litigation and these issues can end up in court. Accordingly, Gordon has represented individual, corporation, and institutional clients in all levels of courts in our Province and in front of various administrative tribunals, a few of which have recently included The Canada Pension Plan Review Tribunal, The Police Review Board, and The Liquor License Board.

Early in his career, Gordon had worked as a contract prosecutor and presently includes a component of criminal law defence in his practice, focusing on select offences. He also has experience in real estate conveyancing, ranging from single family homes to much larger transactions involving residential complexes or commercial development.

While not at work, Gordon resides in Dartmouth with his two sons and enjoys spending time with them and also as much time as possible in the outdoors mountain biking, skiing, or attending live music events. He is also a very mediocre hockey player and makes up for lack of skill with enthusiasm. Gordon has served as a member of the Board of Directors on a number of not-for-profit organizations ranging from Jest in Time Theatre to The Nova Scotia Water Ski Association, and currently sits as a member of the Board of Directors of Verico Premiere Mortgage Centre Inc.

Prior to commencing the practice of law, Gordon attended Acadia, York, and Dalhousie Universities and worked a diverse array of jobs ranging from a high-rise window washer in Toronto to a maintenance worker with the Halifax Civic Workers’ Union.
